Welcome to "Rail Time"
You are now viewing VRE's new real time tracking, Rail Time! This interactive system map to the right is the latest innovation from Virginia Railway Express. It is similar to Train Brain with several upgrades. In addtion to showing current train location, you can zoom in to see exactly where the train is located. Locations are reported by GPS locators on board each VRE train.  

How to Use Rail Time
To view a pop-up box containing the current status of a train, simply place your mouse over the train�s icon. In addition to status, the pop-up contains a timestamp indicating when the train was at the location shown on the map. As an added feature, click your mouse directly on the train�s icon and zoom in to a detailed street map of the selected train�s location.  

Can't find your train?
If your train is being tracked via GPS it will appear to the right. If the GPS is unavailable, it is being "manually tracked". Manual tracking is done by conductor reports from the train. Manually tracked trains can be found on the Train Status page. 

All browsers may not support the pop-up feature. As an alternative, the status of all trains scheduled to be in operation at the current time can be accessed on the Train Status page. Below are the schedules for VRE's Fredericksburg and Manassas lines that became effective on
May 12, 2008..  

The train numbers that are followed by an * refer to Amtrak trains available only to VRE riders with a valid 10-Trip, Five Day, Monthly, or TLC ticket. Please note that Amtrak does not accept VRE Single-Ride, Round Trip Tickets or Free Ride Certificates. For more information on Amtrak service available to VRE riders, please visit our Amtrak page. 

NOTE: In order to ride Amtrak trains listed on our schedule, a multi-fare VRE ticket must be accompanied by a Step-Up Ticket. For more infomation on the Step-Up Ticket program, please visit our Step-Up Ticket page. 

VRE does not operate service on weekends or Federal holidays (see holiday schedule). Consult the calendar page for specfic dates. On other selected days, VRE will run on our "S" schedule. Only trains in our normal schedule marked with an "S" will operate. See our calendar page for operating dates.
